A GIFT City institute, set up in partnership with
India’ growing market economy, its population size, its assiduous development of regulatory and market infrastructure institutions, its public digital infrastructure, and its technology developing firms have created an environment of immense possibilities for social and economic transformation of our society and its systems emerging as models around the world. This sets up India strategically for economic transformation in the 21st century and removal of poverty from India. Growth of the economy will be secularly linked to financial intermediation, creation of jobs, and innovation in technology and business models. Today's financial ecosystem, encompassing capital markets, financial intermediaries, financial inclusion initiatives, regulatory bodies, and the applications of financial services, is undergoing significant transformation due to digital technologies and security systems.
As the broad structure of this ecosystem and the emerging technologies that are involved in this change, the recognition that this financial system is being disrupted by these technologies requires society to think differently about how its gains will be brought for the benefit of our population. Such a realization of value would occur through deep understanding of the relationship between the two and an ability to apply knowledge systems embedded in both simultaneously
India needs to bring this broad ecosystem together seamlessly and grow it. Their key requirement would be to build talent at scale that has knowledge of both the ecosystem and cutting-edge technology as well as grow startups who bring value through the market to people of India and the world. The establishment of GIFT IFI is an opportunity to unlock future competitiveness of institutions and deliver social and economic value in India and the world through this very interacting world of fintech.
Building on its intense engagement with GIFT, the institute will build an active sandbox environment for creating cutting edge and future ready training programmes and research agenda thereby giving a front row seat to participate in financial services transformation in real time. GIFT IFI aims to become a global thought leader, become an immersive learning hub, and innovation centre where many new use cases can be conceived for the world, integrated and embedded in the service stacks, and whose ideas would change the financial services ecosystem. Entities within GIFT City and experts from across the world can come to this micro-economy with their ideas and turn these ideas into powerful fintech products and services for India and the world. The promise is improvement in the quality of life and livelihood of millions of our people through development in fintech.
