The opening balance section covers the concept and trigger for opening balance adjustment, use of prior-year accounts, prior-year trial balance and schedules, journal format, and handling differences between system opening balances and prior-year accounts.
The fixed asset section covers the purpose and structure of a Fixed Asset Register, brought-forward balances, additions, disposals, accumulated depreciation, profit or loss on disposal, and reconciliation of the Fixed Asset Register to the trial balance. These are taken from the fixed asset module in the attached programme.
The debtors and creditors section covers aged receivables and aged payables, aging buckets, old or doubtful balances, Excel schedule layout, credit balances in debtors, old creditors and duplicate accounts.
The prepayment and accrual section covers prepayments, accrued income, accruals and deferred income. It includes time apportionment, percentage of completion, contract-length calculations, creation and reversal journal entries, and linking schedules back to the trial balance.
The other balance sheet section covers stock, bank balances, other debtors, other creditors, tax balances, director balances, suspense accounts and clearing accounts.
The year-end section brings together input document analysis, opening balance adjustment, trial balance coding, balance sheet schedule preparation, VAT reconciliation, payroll reconciliation, bank reconciliation, intercompany reconciliation, ledger scrutiny, draft balance sheet and P&L preparation, notes and client query drafting. This is based on the Year-End Job Preparation module in the attached file.
Trainees will build a Fixed Asset Register, prepare debtors and creditors schedules, complete prepayment and accrual calculations, prepare other balance sheet schedules, perform ledger scrutiny, and complete one full year-end job from source documents to draft financial statements.
The final assessment will be a full integrated year-end case. Trainees will receive a trial balance, supporting documents, payroll and VAT extracts, aged debtor and creditor reports, and selected client notes. They will be required to prepare schedules, pass adjustments, reconcile balances, draft queries, and submit a final working-paper pack.
Bring the learner to job-readiness by completing balance sheet schedules, reconciliations and a full year-end assignment. This final course consolidates everything. It covers opening balance adjustments, fixed assets, debtors, creditors, prepayments, accruals, deferred income, other balance sheet items, ledger scrutiny, year-end preparation, query drafting and final assessment.
By the end of this course, the learner should be able to prepare opening balance adjustments, fixed asset registers, debtors and creditors schedules, prepayment and accrual schedules, other balance sheet schedules, reconciliations, draft queries, and complete a supervised year-end accounting file.
The programme is delivered in hybrid mode.
